Product Description
We are often asked to compare the Strike Finder with the various Stormscope models. While there is no exact match in the Stormscope line-up, the WX-900 is probably the closest. A Strike Finder lacks the WX-950's "cell mode" ability, and it cannot plot your flight plan on the display like some models of the WX-1000 family.
Although a Strike Finder is more expensive than a WX-900, it offers the major benefit of a slaved display. If you have a Compass System (HSI) with bootstrap output, the Strike Finder display can be heading stabilized.
If you do not have an HSI with bootstrap, Insight offers an optional Stabilization Module that allows the display to become heading-sensitive without an HSI input. Through the clever use of electronics, this module is smart enough to know when activity is rotating on the display, and conclude that the aircraft is turning.
Another innovative capability of the Strike Finder is its "Time Travel" feature. This allows the display to replay the last hour of readings compressed down to one minute. This helps the pilot view and identify trends that might be missed in a busy cockpit.
The Strike Finder also offers:
- 2-piece system (display/processor, and antenna), which reduces size and weight and simplifies installation
- Auto-dimming gas plasma or LED display (depending on inventory)
- Choice of display ranges: 25, 50, 100, and 200 nm
- Stores lightning data in all ranges simultaneously, making it easy and useful to toggle between them
- 360° view of surrounding airspace
- Clear function to help determine storm intensity and movement
