Weather Radar
Steer clear of the worst weather (precipitation) with one of our Weather Radar systems. Here are some points to consider when looking for a Radar:
Antenna Size - If a Weather Radar system won't fit in your aircraft, then any other features don't matter. Radar systems are available with either a 10 inch or 12 inch antenna array (dish or plate).
A 10 inch antenna will fit the under-wing radar pod on a single, or in the nose of a light twin. Cabin-class twins (and larger) can generally accommodate a 12 inch antenna.
If a 12 inch antenna will fit your aircraft, this is the better choice. The larger antenna will offer slightly better performance, and may be less expensive as well.
Color or Monochrome - A color system is more expensive, but it is more useable as well. When you are busy, and the ride is bumpy, a glance at a color radar will tell you more information. A monochrome display simply requires more interpretation.
Which component(s)? - Weather Radar systems come in either two-piece systems (Indicator and Receiver / Transmitter / Antenna) and three-piece systems (Indicator, Receiver / Transmitter, and Antenna). We can supply you with either a complete system, or just the components you need.
The Future - It is becoming increasingly popular to replace the Weather Radar Indicator with a Multi-Function Display (MFD). A Radar Indicator takes up a lot of real estate on your panel, and a MFD makes much better use of this space.
If you are ready for an MFD now, please contact us to discuss the display and compatible Radar systems. If you are not yet ready for an MFD, but you intend to keep the aircraft for several years, it makes sense to keep your options open with a Radar that can be displayed on common MFDs.
